Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Exchange team within the Institutional product group. You will build and operate real-time trading systems—matching engines, order management, market data, and funding rate computation—supporting institutional clients.

You will write performance-critical code in Java, C++, or Go, own system reliability end-to-end, and ship features that expand Coinbase's trading capabilities for large financial institutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building production trading, exchange, or financial infrastructure at scale.
• Backend proficiency in Java, C++, or Go with latency-sensitive workloads on Linux/JVM.
• Track record designing and operating highly reliable distributed systems with 24/7 uptime.
• Experience partnering with product and cross-functional teams to scope complex projects.
• Genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets; crypto experience a plus.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate low-latency, event-sourced trading systems spanning matching, order entry, risk, and market data across cloud and colocated environments.
• Own the reliability and correctness of production systems processing high-throughput financial data 24/7, including incident response and failover design.
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure, and senior engineering leadership to translate strategy into quarterly deliverables and well-scoped milestones.
• Drive technical design decisions within your domain, producing clear proposals and building consensus with peers and tech leads.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code in a performance-critical backend environment (Java, C++, or Go), with a focus on latency and throughput.
