Job summary

Sonoco is seeking a Senior Industrial Maintenance Reliability Technician at its West Chicago facility. You will lead preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues, and drive reliability improvements with cross-functional teams.

You will work with CMMS records, perform wiring and controls tasks, and support safety and quality policies while training junior staff. This role requires off-shift availability and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

Experience in an industrial environment or military experience.
Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing equipment.
Experience with PLC troubleshooting and industrial motor controls preferred.
Comfortable with mechanical lifts, ladders, kneeling, bending and twisting, lifting up to 50lbs.
Working independently and managing multiple tasks in an off-shift position with rotating shifts that may require overtime including weekends.

Responsibilities

Adheres strictly to safety protocols, leading by example and mitigating risks.
Executes preventive and predictive maintenance tasks accurately and promptly.
Proficiently troubleshoots basic electrical issues, in addition to mechanical problems.
Collaborates effectively with operations to address equipment anomalies.
Engages in proactive maintenance initiatives like FMEA and RCCA.
Utilizes internal CMMS to keep detailed records of work for future reference and analysis.
Upholds stringent housekeeping standards in work areas.
Demonstrates proficiency in precision welding, shop tools operation, and mechanical repairs.
Proficient in electrical systems, including wiring, motor controls (VFDs & Servos), and PLC ladder logic (Allen Bradley & Siemens).
Proficient in designing and troubleshooting complex electrical circuits as well as safety circuits.
Expertise in running conduits and wiring, emphasizing precision and compliance with electrical codes and standards.
Installing and maintaining auxiliary equipment as required by production.
Maintaining and repairing utility and facility–related equipment as directed by the Plant Engineer.
Assisting/training other maintenance personnel with repairs, PMs, and rebuilds.
Collaborating closely with other departments and teams for proactive problem resolutions.
Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area.
Managing small projects to maintain or upgrade equipment.
Performing all duties in support of Sonoco’s quality and safety policies.
