Job summary

Sonoco is seeking a Senior Industrial Maintenance Reliability Technician at its West Chicago facility. You will lead preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues, and drive reliability improvements with cross-functional teams.

You will work with CMMS records, perform wiring and controls tasks, and support safety and quality policies while training junior staff. This role requires off-shift availability and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in an industrial environment or military experience.
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing equipment.
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting and industrial motor controls preferred.
• Comfortable with mechanical lifts, ladders, kneeling, bending and twisting, lifting up to 50lbs.
• Working independently and managing multiple tasks in an off-shift position with rotating shifts that may require overtime including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Adheres strictly to safety protocols, leading by example and mitigating risks.
• Executes preventive and predictive maintenance tasks accurately and promptly.
• Proficiently troubleshoots basic electrical issues, in addition to mechanical problems.
• Collaborates effectively with operations to address equipment anomalies.
• Engages in proactive maintenance initiatives like FMEA and RCCA.
• Utilizes internal CMMS to keep detailed records of work for future reference and analysis.
• Upholds stringent housekeeping standards in work areas.
• Demonstrates proficiency in precision welding, shop tools operation, and mechanical repairs.
• Proficient in electrical systems, including wiring, motor controls (VFDs & Servos), and PLC ladder logic (Allen Bradley & Siemens).
• Proficient in designing and troubleshooting complex electrical circuits as well as safety circuits.
• Expertise in running conduits and wiring, emphasizing precision and compliance with electrical codes and standards.
• Installing and maintaining auxiliary equipment as required by production.
• Maintaining and repairing utility and facility–related equipment as directed by the Plant Engineer.
• Assisting/training other maintenance personnel with repairs, PMs, and rebuilds.
• Collaborating closely with other departments and teams for proactive problem resolutions.
• Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area.
• Managing small projects to maintain or upgrade equipment.
• Performing all duties in support of Sonoco’s quality and safety policies.
