Job summary

Washington Gas seeks a Sr. Advisor, Incident & Emergency Management to strengthen emergency preparedness, incident response, and resilience across the organization.

You will lead the development and continuous improvement of the program, guiding plans, playbooks, and documentation, while providing expert advice to leadership on preparedness and response strategies. Collaboration with operations, engineering, security, and leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of progressively responsible experience in emergency management or related field.
• Experience supporting emergency response operations, preparedness programs, exercises, and incident investigations.
• Working experience within Incident Command System (ICS) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) environments.
• Experience coordinating cross-functional teams during complex operational or emergency events.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and continuous improvement of WGL’s Incident & Emergency Management program.
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans, procedures, playbooks, tools, and supporting documentation.
• Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to leadership on emergency preparedness, response strategies, and operational readiness.
• Coordinate and support response activities during utility emergencies, operational incidents, severe weather, security events, and infrastructure disruptions.
• Support EOC and Incident Command System (ICS) activations and serve in designated leadership roles as assigned.
• Lead emergency exercises, tabletop simulations, drills, training, and readiness assessments.
• Conduct preparedness assessments, risk and hazard analyses, and identify opportunities to strengthen organizational resilience.
• Lead after‑action reviews and ensure lessons learned and corrective actions are incorporated into emergency plans and practices.
• Build relationships with emergency management agencies, regulators, public safety organizations, mutual aid partners, and other external stakeholders.
• Provide leadership with emergency preparedness updates, metrics, briefings, and recommendations.
