Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a seasoned Incident Management professional to lead planning, execution and continual review of emergency operations. You will coordinate with regional agencies, serve as On-Scene Commander as required, and develop incident response plans for roadways and major events.

The role demands strong communication, analytical and decision-making skills, with a focus on reducing response times and improving safety during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally in writing.
• Ability to effectively problem solve and apply critical thinking to traffic operations incidents.
• Ability to report to incident scenes with exposure to live traffic conditions i.e., noise, fumes, dust, gases, chemicals etc. and encounter unexpected safety hazards.
• Ability to walk or stand on uneven terrain or surfaces to review incident and, or accident scenes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct Incident Management Committees and coordinate across local, regional and state levels.
• Manage incidents, emergencies and special traffic events and serve as On-Scene Commander when needed.
• Develop and review incident response plans and after action reports for continual improvement.
• Coordinate with TOC and regional agencies to ensure effective traffic management during emergencies.
