Job summary

Happen Bank is seeking a Sr Software Engineer in San Francisco to own authentication and user profile management services across high‑volume platforms. You will drive end‑to‑end design, delivery, and operation, ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable systems for millions of users.

You will lead architecture discussions, design distributed cloud services on AWS, and mentor peers while integrating AI tools to improve analysis and code review. This hybrid role requires in‑office collaboration in SF.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong REST API design for internal and external use.
• Expert in Java and the Spring ecosystem.
• Experience designing distributed, scalable systems.
• Cloud-native services on AWS; relational DB design.
• Skilled debugger tracing across services and dependencies.
• Experience with AI tools to accelerate engineering work.
• Focus on security, maintainability, and long-term costs.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end auth and user-profile initiatives.
• Own reliability of authentication, sessions, and MFA/SSO.
• Design and operate distributed systems on AWS.
• Document decisions balancing scalability and cost.
• Lead design reviews with architects and product partners.
• Harden APIs for downstream services and data integrity.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues across services.
• Integrate AI tools to accelerate engineering work.
• Improve engineering practices and mentor engineers.
