Job summary

CapNexus is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own complex software outcomes, designing and building applications, APIs, and services, while mentoring peers in our agentic delivery system. Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong grasp of architecture concepts: event-driven and service-based design, API design, data modeling.
• Experience owning a significant system from design through production and mentoring engineers.
• Hands-on experience with AI-driven workflows and spec-driven development tools.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain IBM i applications in free-format RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, and CL using ILE concepts.
• Work with DB2 for i through SQL and DDS, including files and subfiles.
• Integrate IBM i applications with web services, JSON, XML, FTP, and IFS.
• Support changes through testing, deployment, and post-deployment with client teams.
• Set coding and testing standards for IBM i work; identify modernization opportunities.
• Own the technical outcome for a system area or major feature set from design to delivery.
• Design APIs and data models with cost, scale, and failure in mind; build observability in.
• Collaborate with Cloud Engineers on infrastructure as code and CI/CD.
• Partner with Solutions Architect and Engagement Manager to translate designs into build plans.
• Set code-quality standards and mentor engineers through pairing and reviews; guide AI tooling usage.
