Job summary

CapNexus is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own complex software outcomes, designing and building applications, APIs, and services while mentoring engineers. You’ll work on IBM i, building and supporting RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, CL, DB2 for i data, and integrations with web services, JSON, XML.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong architectural design skills (event-driven, API design, data modeling).
• Experience owning a significant system from design through production.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
• Hands-on experience with spec-driven or agentic development workflows.
• Hands-on experience programming on IBM i (AS/400, iSeries): RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, CL.
• Strong SQL skills on DB2 for i, DDS, subfiles, RPG familiarity.
• Experience with IBM i Access Client Solutions or iSeries Navigator, IFS, JSON/XML.
• Experience with Blue Yonder MMS.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain IBM i applications in RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, and CL.
• Work with DB2 for i via SQL and DDS; manage files and subfiles.
• Integrate IBM i apps with web services, JSON/XML, FTP, and IFS.
• Support changes through testing, deployment, and client collaboration.
• Set coding standards and mentor engineers in AI-assisted delivery.
• Own technical outcomes for system areas or features; drive plans.
• Design APIs and data models with cost, scale, and observability in mind.
• Collaborate with Cloud Engineers on IaC and CI/CD pipelines.
• Partner with Solutions Architect and Engagement Manager on delivery plans.
• Lead code quality efforts and review AI-generated outputs for correctness.
