Job summary

Plug Power Inc. is seeking a Sr. Electrical & Instrument Technician to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical and instrument equipment at our Woodbine hydrogen plant.

The role requires on-call readiness and close collaboration with engineering and reliability teams to keep H2 production running 24/7. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in industrial electrical/controls, strong MV/LV knowledge, and experience with control systems and safety standards (NFPA 70E, NEC).

Qualifications

• Minimum five years in industrial electrical, controls, or related field.
• Associate degree in electrical engineering or related field preferred or equivalent experience (+2 years).
• Ability to interpret schematic wiring diagrams, P&ID, electrical one-line diagrams, OEM manuals.
• Experience with test equipment and troubleshooting complex electrical systems (IR thermography, insulation resistance, hi-pot, voltage/phase tests).
• Preferred experience in industrial DCS/PLC systems and ability to learn/troubleshoot them.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70E training or willingness to obtain; high-voltage safety training is preferred or to be completed.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Maintain instrumentation and electrical equipment safely and efficiently per procedures and regulatory requirements (NEC, NFPA 70, 70E).
• Lead scheduled preventive/corrective maintenance and process improvements with engineering/reliability teams.
• Troubleshoot and repair low and medium voltage electrical systems (switchgear, transformers, MCC, VFDs).
• Work with control systems instrumentation and PLC/DCS components and calibration.
• Enter and manage work orders in CMMS (Maximo, Emaint, SAP).
• Coordinate with contractors, OEM vendors, and suppliers.
• Occasional travel (0–20%) for outages, commissioning, or shop support.
• Mentor and train junior E&I technicians.
