Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 10+ years of hydroelectric experience to advance projects involving turbines, valves, and water conveyance. You will design, analyze, and assess equipment, while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams for refurbishment, modernization, or new plants.

You will perform field work up to ~20% and support client goals through design, calculations, and documentation, leveraging CAD/FEA tools and strong English communication.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering degree is required and California PE is preferred or obtainable within 1 year.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design for hydro units, dam outlet works, and water conveyance.
• Experience with CAD drafting/modeling and mechanical/structural FEA tools.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication; ability to interact with clients and teams.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, estimate costs, and review commercial aspects of projects.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project engineers and managers on planning, design, CAD drafting, and manufacturing plans.
• Prepare technical specs, bid documents, and capital cost estimates for hydro and valve projects.
• Identify project goals with clients and develop strategies to achieve them.
• Determine criteria, loads, and boundary conditions for mechanical designs of turbines and generators.
• Ensure manufacturing quality through inspection plans and testing.
• Attend installation and commissioning of equipment on site.
• Perform field measurements and condition assessments of equipment.
• Analyze deficiencies, conduct root-cause analyses, and develop remediation options.
• Manage interfaces with clients, suppliers, trades, and engineers.
• Review contracts for equipment supply and installation; deliver findings in reports and presentations.
• Communicate with team members and adhere to Stantec standards.
