Job summary

University of Michigan is seeking a Senior Plan Reviewer in Ann Arbor, MI for a hybrid, full-time role. You will review design and construction plans for compliance with standards and codes, travel to perform field verifications, and participate in meetings to maintain expertise.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least 5 years in architecture/engineering/construction, with strong knowledge of codes and building systems. Valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in architectural, engineering or construction field or credentials showing successful completion of a certified skilled trade apprenticeship program.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in architectural, engineering, or construction industry.
• Experience conducting detailed plan reviews, site inspections and preparing related reports.
• Knowledge of building systems, construction methods, materials building standards, building codes, life safety, and accessibility.
• Proficiency with standard computer applications and software programs.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Review design and construction plans for construction and renovation projects to verify compliance with the university design standards, constructability, biddability, and applicable codes.
• Communicate identified discrepancies to U-M design managers.
• Travel both on and off campus, to perform field verifications of existing conditions to inform plan reviews.
• Participate in meetings, and training to maintain expertise and consult with peers and subject matter experts.
