Job summary

Walmart in Fredericksburg, VA is seeking an experienced HVAC/R Technician to oversee installation, commissioning, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance of commercial refrigeration systems.

Qualifications

• 3 years’ HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration experience.
• Or 6 years’ HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and an AAS in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
• Hold and maintain EPA Type I and Type II or Universal certification for refrigerant handling.
• Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
• 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
• Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five years.
• Commercial driving record with no more than two moving violations in the last three years.
• No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three years.
• No serious traffic violations in the last three years.

Responsibilities

• Oversees installation and commissioning of HVAC/R systems, including ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics.
• Leads diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues across commercial and industrial systems.
• Implements and monitors preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and reduce downtimes.
• Manages rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units, ensuring optimal performance and compliance.
• Submits required written and electronic information (expense vouchers, weekly summaries, work orders, maintenance logs).
• Ensures adherence to OSHA standards and EPA refrigerant handling protocols by supervising field practices and documentation.
• Leads HVAC/R field teams by coordinating work assignments, mentoring technicians, and managing escalated service issues.
• May be assigned a Developmental Technician for on-the-job training and hands-on instruction for Technician-level associates.
• Delivers hands-on training sessions on safety, control troubleshooting, and system operations at various locations.
• Participates in on-call rotation to support business-critical needs outside standard hours.
• Tracks and orders HVAC/R parts, records purchases and usage, and ensures contract compliance with external service providers.
