Job Description
HJF is seeking a Senior HVAC Mechanic to install, service, and repair heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and related environmental‑control systems. The position supports the Uniformed Services University Facilities department.
Responsibilities
- Install, modify, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair new and existing utility, electrical, HVAC, and refrigeration systems.
- Check air handling equipment, complete preventive maintenance (PM), and manage PM schedules as directed.
- Coordinate Routine Work Requests (RWR) with supervisor to ensure timely execution.
- Trace and locate defects using proper tools and testing devices; repair minor electrical circuits and equipment.
- Mentor less experienced HVAC and tradespeople; work from oral instructions, blueprints, and written work orders.
- Plan test procedures, determine required parts and equipment, and install or repair systems with minimal oversight.
- Perform scheduled overtime as required; may work 100% on emergencies up to 10% of the time.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or directed by supervisor.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience.
Licenses and Certifications
- EPA Section 608, R‑410A, Indoor Air Quality, NATE, and/or Preventive Maintenance HVAC certifications (preferred).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Extensive knowledge of the construction and operation of commercial and research facilities.
- Skilled in servicing power sources.
- Knowledge and skill in accepted trade methods and techniques.
- Ability to work from oral instructions, blueprints, and written work orders.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust background check.
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
Work Environment
- Position primarily in a maintenance setting.
- Work schedule: 6:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday‑Friday.
Compensation
- Hourly pay range: $29.33–$46.83, determined by experience, education, and other factors.
