University of North Carolina Charlotte is seeking an HVAC Technician to perform maintenance, repair, and installation tasks across campus facilities. The role requires handling 1,000 service calls annually and ensuring EPA, OSHA, and university safety standards are met.
The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, with a schedule of 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, and occasional evenings/weekends. On-call duties may apply, and the role is based in FM Building.
This is a Facility Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Trades) at the Journey level with a specialty in HVAC. The position is to be fully functioning in a particular trade area. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the contributing level. This position may also be allowed to perform/learn another trade discipline either at the contributing or journey level. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components in the assigned zone or core maintenance.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Note: Some state job postings state you can qualify by an 'equivalent combination of education and experience.' If that language appears above, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
Performs comprehensive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on residential and commercial HVAC equipment across a dispersed campus. Manages high-volume service requests, executes preventative maintenance programs, assesses facility damage, and ensures strict adherence to EPA, OSHA, state, and university compliance standards.
Positions may be required to possess and maintain certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria, as applicable to the tasks being performed, and to follow applicable building codes.
