Job summary

Southland Industries seeks a Senior Design Engineer to provide conceptual HVAC and systems design for projects, guiding less-experienced engineers and ensuring production of designs for small to large projects.

You will participate in design meetings, perform advanced calculations, and oversee site inspections to verify conformance with construction documents. Strong CAD/Excel skills and PE licensure are required.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years experience.
• PE License required.
• Excellent knowledge of applicable systems design (HVAC, plumbing, etc.) and operations.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with all levels of staff and clients.
• Strong public speaking skills.
• Strong computer skills including CAD and Microsoft Office (Excel).

Responsibilities

• Serve as design professional at project team design meetings.
• Prepare complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• Perform complex calculations (heating/cooling loads, sizing, friction loss, etc.).
• Conduct site inspections and resolve design issues during construction.
• Supervise or direct workflow of less-experienced engineers on HVAC or system design.
