Job summary

Redwood Materials is seeking a Substation Protection and Control Engineer to join our EPC team. You will design high voltage substations and integrate them with transmission lines and MV distribution, ensuring reliability and code compliance.

You will perform grid simulations using PSSE/PSLF/PSCAD, coordinate with utilities, and lead R&D on HVDC approaches for BESS integration, while mentoring junior engineers and driving standardization across projects.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited Electrical Engineering degree.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada or eligible for reciprocity; must obtain Nevada & South Carolina PE within 2 months.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in high voltage electrical design, preferably in EPC environments.
• Proficiency in transmission load flow and stability tools (PSSE/PSLF).
• Experience with HV equipment design and protection/SCADA concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of high voltage AC substation systems (69kV–345kV).
• Review substations for reliability and stability improvements.
• Develop single-line diagrams, layout, protection/control, relay settings, and grounding plans.
• Perform grid studies with PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN OneLiner.
• Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies and compliance.
• Lead HVDC design feasibility for BESS integration.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to align scope, schedule and budget.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
