Redwood Materials in San Francisco, CA is seeking a Substation Protection and Control Engineer to join our EPC team, leading high voltage design for industrial substations and integration with transmission and MV distribution.

The ideal candidate has ABET EE degree, PE license, 10+ years HV experience, and hands-on skills with PSSE/PSLF/PSCAD, ETAP/SKM, and relay settings; join a mission-driven company advancing energy storage and grid modernization.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• PE license in NV or reciprocity; must obtain NV/SC within 2 months.
• Minimum 10 years of high voltage design experience in EPC environments.
• Transmission-level load flow and stability using PSSE/PSLF.
• Electromagnetic transient simulations using PSCAD/EMTP or similar.
• Relay settings using SEL AcSELerator or equivalent.
• Relay coordination and fault studies using OneLiner or similar.
• Power system modeling using ETAP/SKM or similar.

Responsabilités

• Lead design of HV AC electrical systems for industrial substations (69kV-345kV).
• Review and improve reliability and stability of existing substations.
• Develop single-line diagrams, layouts, protection and grounding plans.
• Perform grid simulations and stability studies with PSSE/PSLF/PSCAD.
• Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies.
• Lead R&D on HVDC concepts for BESS integration.
• Coordinate with internal/external teams on scope and budget.
