Job summary

Gridworks seeks a Senior Project Manager to oversee high voltage substation projects from planning through turnover, ensuring safety, schedule adherence, and budget control. You will coordinate among engineering, procurement, construction, and utility stakeholders to deliver reliable facilities on time.

The role emphasizes leadership, client relations, and risk management, with travel across project sites in the Southwest and beyond as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of project management experience delivering HV substations.
• Strong knowledge of HV substation construction and equipment.
• Experience managing budgets, schedules, contracts and client relationships.
• Experience coordinating utility interconnections, outages, testing, commissioning and energization.
• Ability to read substation drawings and protection/control diagrams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and leadership skills.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams in delivering HV substations, switchyards, and interconnection facilities for utility-scale solar and storage projects.
• Plan, scope development, estimating, execution plans, and construction sequencing; assign responsibilities across teams.
• Act as primary contact for clients, utilities, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors; chair meetings and communicate risks.
• Develop integrated project schedules covering design releases, long-lead equipment, civil work, and energization milestones.
• Manage contracts, change orders, and commercial risks; document changes and invoices.
• Coordinate procurement and delivery of transformers, breakers, switches, and substation equipment; review invoices and subcontracts.
• Own project budgets, cash flow, cost forecasts, and financial reporting; coordinate with field leadership on resources.
• Oversee quality inspections and documentation; ensure compliance with drawings and specs; resolve deficiencies.
• Collaborate with safety and field leaders to enforce OSHA and client safety requirements.
• Coordinate protection/controls, SCADA, communications, and utility interfaces; manage testing, outages and energization approvals.
• Identify and mitigate risks; manage punch lists, as-built records, test reports, and turnover packages.
• Lead and mentor project managers and engineers to improve execution practices.
