Job summary

CDM Smith seeks a Senior Substation Physical Engineer to provide technical and organizational leadership within our Power and Energy practice. You will lead HV substation design, mentor staff, and support business growth across multiple offices in the U.S.

The role requires extensive experience, PE licensure, and strong leadership capabilities to deliver projects from planning through commissioning while maintaining client satisfaction and high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Technology or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license is required.
• 15 years of related experience or equivalent combined experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, execution, and delivery of HV substation projects ranging from 230kV to 345kV.
• Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) and technical authority for substation physical design including AIS/GIS substations, grounding, lightning protection, and station service systems.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables, studies, and calculations to ensure client requirements and quality procedures are met.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to support integrated project delivery from planning through construction, commissioning and startup.
• Drive technical excellence through reviews, standards development, and continuous improvement.
