Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Senior Substation Physical Engineer to provide technical and organizational leadership within our Power and Energy practice. This role combines advanced HV substation design expertise with leading a team of engineers and designers.

The position involves serving as the technical authority for substation physical design, delivering projects from planning through startup, and guiding performance, utilization, and growth across multiple offices.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
15 years of related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
Experience leading regional or multi-office engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Lead HV substation design projects from 230kV to 345kV.
Serve as Engineer of Record for substation physical design (AIS/GIS, grounding, protection).
Review deliverables for compliance with standards and client requirements.
Mentor engineers and develop staff; recruit and retain talent.
Manage team utilization, budgets, schedules, and staffing.
Support business development and client relationship management.
