Job summary

Dewberry is expanding its Energy Market Sector and seeking a Substation Physical Engineer to lead the growth of our medium and high voltage substation design practice in Owings Mills, MD. This leadership role provides technical and strategic direction, team mentorship, and coordination with energy PMO leadership.

You will oversee equipment layouts, grounding, conduits, and protection/controls, supervise design packages, ensure safety, and drive design standards and talent development across

Qualifications

• BS in electrical engineering required.
• 20+ years of experience in medium/high voltage substation design.
• PE license required.
• Experience designing HV substations and deliverables.
• Proven leadership and team delegation.
• Self-starter with initiative and drive.
• Familiarity with regulated utility design standards.
• Good knowledge of NEC/NFPA Life Safety Codes and related codes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for multi-disciplinary coordination.

Responsibilities

• Meet with clients to demonstrate technical capabilities.
• Coordinate with Energy PMO leadership and energy client managers.
• Develop technical approach, engineer estimates, and organize the technical team.
• Collaborate with and manage multi-discipline teams.
• Assist with training and mentoring staff.
• Provide technical and quality oversight of project work.
• Establish and improve standards; monitor design schedule and budgets.
• Recruit, develop, and retain energy talent in energy projects.
