Job summary

dsm‑firmenich is seeking a Sr. Health, Safety, and Environment Manager for its Somerset, NJ site. The role requires 5–10 years in chemical manufacturing and deep knowledge of OSHA and regulatory compliance, with 25% travel to California.

You will lead HSE initiatives, build a strong safety culture, and ensure ISO 14001/45001 compliance across operations. Responsibilities include maintaining the HSE management system, conducting risk assessments, and driving continuous improvement through data

Qualifications

• BS degree in an Engineering discipline.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and experience working with regulatory agencies and industrial risk assessment.
• 5–10 years of experience in chemical manufacturing environment and Chemical Process Safety.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong technical skills and familiar with root cause and risk assessment methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Be a well-rounded HSE solution partner in protecting our people, the environment, and our assets to support sustainable business growth by building effective relationships, coaching, influencing and supporting stakeholders at all levels within the organization to strengthen HSE culture.
• Ensure the local HSE management system is effectively designed, implemented, and controlled and meets dsm‑firmenich standards, ISO standards, and all relevant regulatory requirements.
• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the site operations and detailed processes; ensure key risks are understood and mitigated through the site Management System and action plans; ensure an audit program.
• Co‑own with relevant stakeholders the site HSE continuous improvement plan considering global strategy, management principles & codes, data, and new business requirements, providing data analysis and recommendations.
• Facilitate and support line management through investigation of injuries, illnesses and incidents to improve the management system.
• Support interactions with local regulatory agencies including NJDEP, CALOSHA, and related agencies.
• Lead internal audit programs, maintain and improve ISO 14001 and 45001 standards, and support audits by clients, authorities, and certification bodies.
