Job summary

Associated Students in San Diego, California, seeks an experienced HR leader to oversee the Human Resources department, payroll staff, and compliance with employment laws. This role reports to the Associate Executive Director and collaborates with campus partners to recruit, onboard, and develop staff across the organization.

You will manage benefits, leave policies, investigations, and ensure accurate payroll processing while maintaining confidentiality and fostering positive employee morale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in HR, Public Administration, Business, or a related field.
• Master’s degree preferred; SPHR certification preferred.
• Ten years of progressive HR experience with management roles.
• Experience in Higher Education strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees HR department, payroll staff, and processes.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state, and payroll tax laws.
• Leads recruitment, onboarding for staff, and staff development.
• Maintains employee handbooks and postings per laws.
• Works with executives and departments on HR policy and investigations.
