Job summary

The University of Chicago Research Computing Center seeks a Senior HPC System Administrator to design, deploy, and manage scalable HPC infrastructure. You will lead installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux and Windows servers with a focus on performance, security, and reliability.

This hybrid role requires three days onsite and involves procurement, hardware/software management, and collaboration with researchers to meet computing needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum degree in related field.
• 5-7 years experience in related discipline.
• Master’s degree in CS or closely related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain large clusters/servers and software.
• Monitor day-to-day operations, storage performance, and network components.
• Configure the scheduling and queuing system (e.g., Slurm, Moab, PBS, TORQUE).
• Diagnose and resolve system problems; coordinate with vendors as needed.
• Use scripting to automate tasks, ensure security maintenance and patching.
• Build and deploy open-source software and vendor offerings.
• Document procedures and maintain backups and security.
