Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking a Systems Administrator 3 to design, operate, and secure the Data Science Institute's computing infrastructure. You will independently administer Linux servers, storage, and workstations, maintain the HPC cluster, and lead projects with minimal supervision.

You will collaborate with faculty, researchers, and staff to support research workflows, implement automation, and enhance security and reliability. A partially remote schedule is available.

Qualifications

• Education: college/university degree in related field.
• Work Experience: 5-7 years in related job discipline.

Responsibilities

• Independently administer and maintain Linux-based servers, storage systems, and workstations supporting research, teaching, and administrative workloads.
• Maintain HPC cluster compute nodes, scheduling, storage, and supporting services.
• Design, implement, and maintain configuration management using Ansible and/or Puppet.
• Plan and execute system upgrades, migrations, and large-scale infrastructure projects with minimal guidance.
• Monitor system health, performance, and capacity; analyze logs and metrics to proactively identify and remediate issues.
