Job summary

UW Information Technology seeks an HPC Systems Engineer to support Linux-based HPC clusters and storage systems for UW researchers. You will design, deploy, and optimize monitoring and automation while providing technical support and on-call coverage in a collaborative team environment.

The role requires strong Linux administration experience, networking knowledge, and excellent communication skills. Hybrid work in Seattle with on-site and remote components during university suspensions is

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, scientific, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
Linux system administration: minimum 4 years of experience or substantial Linux experience.
Basic knowledge of networking hardware, software, protocols, and concepts.
Ability to work with minimal supervision both independently and in a team.
Excellent written and oral communication, technical documentation, and user liaison skills.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, monitor, and optimize research cyberinfrastructure systems and automation.
Perform system administration tasks: accounts, service administration, software updates, backups, and hardware planning.
Monitor HPC health and performance; troubleshoot issues impacting reliability.
Triage, respond to, and resolve tickets and on-call pages.
Research and evaluate new technologies; plan evolution of systems and clusters.
Share knowledge through training, mentoring, and documentation.
Other duties as assigned.
