Job summary

The University of Louisville seeks an IT Systems Engineer V to manage its central research computing infrastructure, including supercomputing clusters, software, and scalable storage systems. This role designs, deploys, and documents complex systems and assists researchers with operation of the resources.

The position requires deep Linux expertise, experience with Slurm, Lustre, and scalable storage, plus scripting in Bash and Python.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and eight years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
• Experience managing Linux-based HPC clusters, Lustre-like storage, and research software.
• Ability to design, install, and document complex computing and storage systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, operate and manage complex university research supercomputing and storage systems and create technical documentation.
• Manage a suite of specialized research software, including licenses and maintenance of OS and support software.
• Assist with hardware/spec procurement, installation and networking.
• Monitor performance, tune systems, and configure SLURM for optimal resource usage.
• Advise faculty and researchers on HPC usage and help optimize custom codes.
• Collaborate on research grant proposals to expand computing resources.
