Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a qualified coding professional to ensure accuracy and completeness of clinical coding for proper reimbursement and data integrity. The role reports to the Coding Compliance Manager and requires AHIMA/AAPC certifications with extensive ICD-10-CM/CPT knowledge.

Two to four years of hospital coding experience are preferred, especially in trauma or teaching facilities, with strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of relevant hospital coding or auditing experience required.
• Experience coding/auditing in a level 1 trauma facility/academic teaching facility preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and guidelines.
• Extensive knowledge of 3M Coding applications and resolving coding edits.
• Working knowledge of reimbursement systems and policies pertaining to documentation, coding and billing.
• Knowledge of database applications and spreadsheet design.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular coding audits and coordinate ongoing monitoring of coding accuracy.
• Develop and coordinate educational sessions to coding staff on documentation and coding.
• Serve as a resource for organization-wide coding and documentation standards.
• Design audit tools to monitor coding accuracy.
• Keep abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
• Conduct trend analyses to identify patterns in coding practices.
• Adhere to AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding and official coding guidelines.
• Promote safe care and adhere to Memorial Hermann policies within budgetary specs.
