Job summary

RK&K is seeking a Project Engineer in Richmond, VA to plan, design, and lead transportation projects for VDOT and other clients. Use your PE to guide highway design with MicroStation, InRoads, ORD, and Civil 3D while mentoring junior staff.

The role emphasizes collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, adherence to MUTCD/VDOT/AASHTO standards, and delivering high-quality documentation with deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution.
• Current P.E. license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Five+ years of highway/roadway design experience, DOT-focused.
• Proficiency in MicroStation, InRoads, ORD, or Civil 3D.
• Strong knowledge of MUTCD, VDOT, and AASHTO standards.
• Ability to lead tasks on complex transportation projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to highway project design and analysis.
• Create detailed highway designs with selected software.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver solutions.
• Apply highway design standards for safe, efficient designs.
• Prepare technical reports and feasibility studies.
• Coordinate with clients, regulators, and stakeholders for approvals.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Perform quality control reviews of design documents.
• Stay current with industry trends and new technologies.
