Job summary

RK&K is hiring Project Engineers to join our highway design team in Richmond, VA. As a Project Engineer, you will plan, design, and lead transportation projects for VDOT and public/private clients, utilizing MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoad Designer, and Civil 3D to produce roadway designs.

You will collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers, mentor junior staff, and ensure design quality while meeting deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution.
• Current Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within six months.
• Minimum five years of highway/roadway design experience, DOT projects preferred.
• Proficiency in MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoad Designer, Civil 3D.
• Strong knowledge of highway design standards (MUTCD, VDOT, AASHTO).
• Experience leading complex transportation tasks and collaborating in teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects.
• Leadership skills to mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to design, analysis, and development of highway and roadway projects.
• Use MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoad Designer, Civil 3D to create detailed designs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop solutions.
• Apply highway design standards to ensure safe and efficient designs.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and design calculations.
• Coordinate with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Perform quality control reviews of design documents.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements.
