Job summary

The Design Bureau of the Iowa Department of Transportation seeks an Engineering Technician Senior (ETS) to help develop project concepts for 4R, bridge replacement, and other highway improvements. You will work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer performing technical design tasks.

Responsibilities include applying CADD, developing concepts, coordinating with design teams, establishing alignments, modeling projects, preparing cost estimates, and supporting pavement rehab studies.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in civil engineering or related field required/acceptable alternatives.
• Seven years of combined education and full-time experience acceptable.
• Experience in civil engineering design, survey, inspection, or materials testing.

Responsibilities

• Utilize CADD skills and highway design knowledge for project concepts.
• Develop project concepts and support design decisions with teams.
• Coordinate with DOT bureaus, District staff, and project reviewers.
• Establish alignments, preliminary modeling, and mentor team members.
• Prepare cost estimates and analyze project alternatives.
• Support interstate system reviews and pavement rehabilitation concepts.
