Job summary

The Design Bureau of the Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician Senior (ETS) to assist in developing projects within the State’s Highway Improvement Program. Based in Ames, IA, you will work under a Professional Engineer on preliminary design for 4R, bridge replacement, and other highway projects.

You will develop project concepts, estimate costs, and coordinate with district staff, FHWA, and other DOT bureaus.

Qualifications

• CADD skills and highway design understanding required.
• Ability to develop project concepts and assist in design decisions.
• Strong communication and coordination with team members and other bureaus.

Responsibilities

• Utilize CADD skills and knowledge of highway project design principles.
• Develop project concepts and contribute to design decisions with PreDesign Engineer.
• Communicate and coordinate with team members and district staff.
• Establish alignments and preliminary project modeling; mentor team members.
• Facilitate Project Concept meetings and Field Exams with various stakeholders.
• Prepare cost estimates and analyze project alternatives.
• Participate in Interstate system reviews and pavement rehabilitation concepts.
