Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks an experienced inspector to coordinate, schedule, and inspect complex highway construction projects. You will ensure quality in accordance with plans and specifications while protecting public safety and the environment.

The role requires inspecting contractors, maintaining detailed project records, and supporting close-out activities. Strong communication, math, and computer skills are essential, with certifications pursued within 12 months.

Qualifications

• Clear written and oral communication with VDOT, contractors and public.
• Ability to read, interpret and analyze roadway, structure and bridge plans and contracts.
• Record keeping and reporting of project documentation.
• Ability to work in team environments and provide guidance to inspectors.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, schedule and inspect highway construction projects to ensure quality per plans and specs.
• Monitor inspections for compliance with contracts, safety, environmental and DBE guidelines.
• Assist in project close-outs and maintain as-built drawings.
• Maintain materials documentation and correlate to contractor schedules and changes.
• Attend progress meetings, track budgets and quantities, and review submittals for approval.
• Provide direction and training to other inspectors and oversee field activities.
