Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced inspector to independently coordinate, schedule and inspect all phases of highway construction projects to ensure quality in accordance with plans and specifications. You will work under supervision of senior staff to deliver a quality transportation system for the traveling public.

Responsibilities include contract compliance, project documentation, safety and environmental oversight, and coordination with contractors,

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with VDOT and the public.
• Ability to read, interpret and analyze roadway, structure and bridge plans and contract documents.
• Ability to document and maintain detailed project records and prepare reports.
• Ability to work in a team environment and oversee inspectors as needed.
• Knowledge of construction methods, materials, safety and environmental guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, schedule and inspect highway construction projects for quality against plans and specs.
• Manage public relations, respond to concerns, and notify stakeholders of traffic changes.
• Assist with contract compliance, documentation and testing of materials.
• Monitor safety, erosion controls and environmental guidelines on site.
• Track project diaries, daily logs and keep as-built drawings and records.
• Provide guidance to inspectors and coordinate with contractor to resolve issues.
