Job summary

City of Cincinnati is seeking a Substation Maintenance Technician to perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of medium and high voltage electrical systems up to 138,000 volts. The role requires handling complex devices, VFDs, PLCs, RTUs, and related equipment in substation environments.

Qualifications

• 5 years of full-time electrical trade experience with at least 2 years in medium voltage (>1000V).
• Apprenticeship or school may substitute for one year of experience but not for MV requirements.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL may be required for some assignments.
• Ability to work with high voltage and in confined spaces; willingness to work irregular shifts and emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Prepare switching plans to restore power or isolate equipment.
• Troubleshoot power outages and power quality issues; restore equipment safely.
• Install, test, and service RTUs, PLCs, and other electronic system controllers.
• Maintain switchgear, transformers, and HV equipment with routine inspections.
• Drive bucket and aerial trucks to work sites.
• Document work using CMMS, CAD, or related software.
