Job summary

Powerserve Technologies is seeking a Senior Substation Technician to assure reliable operation of electrical substations in manufacturing settings. You will install, troubleshoot, and repair high-voltage equipment including transformers, breakers, and relays, while supporting upgrades and safety compliance.

You will work with engineering teams to plan maintenance, perform diagnostics, and ensure continuous power distribution.

Qualifications

• High school equivalent with electrical apprenticeship or technical training.
• 5+ years with high-voltage equipment in substations or similar environments.
• Strong reading of schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to sites nationwide.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Senior Substation Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of electrical substations within the manufacturing sector. This position is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of high-voltage electrical equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and protective relays. The role demands a deep understanding of electrical systems to support continuous power distribution and minimize downtime. The Senior Substation Technician collaborates closely with engineering teams to implement upgrades and ensure compliance with safety and industry standards. Ultimately, this position contributes to the overall efficiency and safety of manufacturing operations by maintaining optimal substation performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent with completion of an electrical apprenticeship or technical training program.


• Minimum of 5 years of experience working with high-voltage electrical equipment in substations or related environment.


• Strong knowledge of electrical theory, substation equipment, and safety protocols.


• A strong proficiency with reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.


• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites within the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field.


• Certification as a Journeyman Electrician or equivalent industry certification.


• Experience with SCADA systems and digital protective relays.


• Familiarity with NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical safety standards.


• Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring junior technicians.


• Proficiency with setting switches, doing buss work, hanging jumpers, erecting steel structures, cabinet work, etc. (in a high voltage substation)
