Job summary

SpaceXAI in Memphis, TN is seeking a Protection & Controls Engineer to design, set, and commission protection schemes for large electrical infrastructure. You will own protection philosophy, drawings, and relay settings for interconnection, distribution, and BESS, working hands-on on site at facilities.

You will coordinate with field technicians and contractors, perform short-circuit studies, and ensure compliance with NERC PRC and IEEE/NESC standards. Some travel to other sites is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of protection and controls experience on HV/MV systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop protection philosophy and diagrams from interconnection to facility buses.
• Set and maintain protective relay settings for lines, transformers, generators, and storage resources.
• Specify relays, CTs, VTs, trip circuits, and protection schemes.
• Perform short-circuit and coordination studies; align with study records.
• Commission protection systems: checks, injections, end-to-end tests, timing checks.
• Collect fault data (COMTRADE) and recommend changes after events.
• Maintain settings database, as-left files, and firmware control for relays.
• Integrate protection with SCADA, RTUs, IEC 61850, and synchrophasors.
• Support NERC PRC evidence/testing for interconnection/generation/storage fleets.
• Work with field technicians during outages and commissioning; stay hands-on.
• Apply IEEE C37.x, NFPA 70/70E standards relevant to assets.
