Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle, WA invites a Ground Software Engineer to join the Lunar Permanence program. You will build and deploy mission-critical software for lunar operations centers, enabling Earth-based operators to control flights, validate systems, and monitor health.

You will collaborate with space vehicle teams and subsystem engineers, develop prototypes, and ensure safety-compliant software through the full lifecycle. Passion for spaceflight is required.

Qualifications

• B.S. or higher degree in Software or Engineering related field.
• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Proven software development in Python and/or Rust.
• Willingness to work with frontend developers and React-based frameworks.
• Experience in full lifecycle software engineering, including design, implementation, verification, and release.
• Skills in build automation, CI, configuration management, verification and deployment.
• Experience designing scalable architectures.
• Familiarity with Linux environment and basic Unix administration.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
• Passion for spaceflight and space exploration.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, verify and deploy mission operations software systems.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define software requirements and designs.
• Develop rapid prototypes to prove concepts and quantify risks.
• Plan, develop, and lead system verification and qualification.
• Produce documentation for architecture, design, verification plans, manuals and training.
• Follow software development processes to ensure safety and reliability.
• Support frequent update cycles for pre-flight testing and training events.
• Support mission control software operations, maintenance and improvements.
• Integrate software components, build and run unit/system tests in SIMs.
