Job summary

Umbra is seeking a Senior Ground Software Engineer to join our Remote Sensing software organization. You will help design, build, and maintain critical systems that support autonomous satellite operations, taking ownership of backend services with the team to improve resiliency and delivery.

You will work across mission planning, scheduling, command and control domains, collaborating with product owners and multidisciplinary teams to enable scalable spacecraft operations at scale.

Qualifications

• BS in computer science or related field.
• 5–8+ years backend experience with highly available services.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and cloud deployments.
• Experience with aerospace ground systems or equivalent domains.
• Knowledge of microservices, testing, and CI/CD practices.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL and containerized services.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for satellite ops.
• Own critical production services and improve resiliency.
• Contribute to architecture with a focus on reliability and security.
• Collaborate across engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Participate in on-call rotations and ensure uptime.
• Develop APIs, data workflows, and observability tooling.
