Job summary

Umbra is seeking a Senior Ground Software Engineer to join our Remote Sensing software organization. You will design, build, and maintain critical systems that support autonomous satellite operations, taking ownership of backend services and improving resiliency.

You will contribute across mission planning, scheduling, command and control domains while collaborating with product owners and engineers to accelerate delivery in multiple product areas.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 5-8+ years of backend experience developing highly available services, preferably Python.
• 3+ years designing, developing RESTful APIs.
• Experience with aerospace ground systems or satellite operations.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services for mission planning, scheduling, command, control, and communications.
• Take ownership of critical production services to improve resiliency.
• Contribute to architecture decisions focusing on reliability, scalability, and security.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Participate in on-call rotations and ensure system uptime and performance.
• Develop and maintain APIs, data workflows, and observability practices.
