Genesee & Wyoming Inc. seeks an AVP Government Affairs to plan, implement, and coordinate programs affecting government policy across the Midwest and beyond.

Focused on state, regional, and local levels, the role requires close collaboration with regional managers and state agencies to advance rail-related initiatives. The ideal candidate will have deep rail-freight knowledge, extensive stakeholder relationships, and strong writing/presentation skills to build consensus and lead grant-funded

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant area is required.
• Minimum of five years in transportation with three years in rail industry policy.
• Experience in public/private sector relationship management involving rail transportation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with state DOTs, legislators, and officials to represent company interests.
• Understand the railroad network, routes, management, infrastructure and investment needs.
• Represent Genesee & Wyoming in state railroading associations and planning groups.
• Identify rail infrastructure projects suitable for public-grant funding with divisional VP support.
• Research and pursue state infrastructure funding opportunities and grant programs.
• Promote grant funding and assist regional staff with grant applications.
• Ensure compliance with lobbying laws and timely filing of required forms.
• Assist in managing state contract lobbyists and regional political issues as needed.
• Maintain records and files and manage travel schedules.
