Job summary

Ookla is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join the Platform and SRE team. You will build, maintain, and operate a massive-scale infrastructure used by hundreds of millions of users, focusing on performance, scalability, reliability, observability, and security.

The role includes on-call responsibilities and collaboration with software and data engineering teams to improve deployment pipelines and monitoring practices.

Qualifications

• We value candidates with hands-on experience building globally distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of security best practices and secure software delivery.
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) is required.
• Proficiency in SQL and optimizing query performance in relational databases.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a massive-scale distributed infrastructure and containerized workloads.
• Operate transactional DBs (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and managed services (RDS/Aurora).
• Support NoSQL data stores (DynamoDB, MongoDB) and data pipelines (Kinesis/Kafka).
• Provide on-call production support in a 24x7x365 environment.
• Collaborate with software engineers to improve monitoring, observability, and security.
