Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a Clinical Operations Program Director to connect science and operations and drive the execution of complex clinical studies. You will act as a strategic advocate for pipeline assets, balancing timelines, budgets and resource needs while providing operational realities to scientific experiments.

You will lead a global team, mentor staff, and influence cross-functional partners to deliver high-impact programs in a compliant, efficient manner.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a nursing or scientific field.
• 12+ years in pharma-related/clinical research experience.
• 10 years leading global teams in study strategy and delivery.
• Experience with risk management, decision-making and strategic execution.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proven coaching, mentoring and people-management ability (remote management preferred).
• Subject matter expertise in ICH, Global Regulations, Ethics and Compliance.

Responsibilities

• Act as a strategic partner in integrated evidence and asset strategy teams to maximize asset value.
• Develop clinical operational strategy and oversee execution of studies/programs with timelines and enrollment options.
• Assess risks and propose mitigations to achieve asset strategy objectives.
• Influence cross-functional teams including Development Operations, trial execution, and medical affairs MDs/SDs.
• Contribute to portfolio planning with cost, resources and timelines for development programs.
• Provide clinical operations content for regulatory submissions (INDs, IBs, NDAs, BLAs, MAAs).
• Oversee external budget management across portfolios (potentially $20–$200M).
• Lead large cross-functional initiatives and manage change across teams to support program execution.
• Develop, mentor and grow clinical operations staff, fostering an inclusive, innovative environment.
