Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a Clinical Operations Program Director to bridge science and operations, leading the execution of one or more clinical programs with a global team. This role serves as a strategic advocate for pipeline assets while driving operational excellence and risk management across studies.

You will lead a multi-disciplinary group, overseeing budgets, timelines, and regulatory deliverables, and mentoring 4–15 study managers plus up to 30 indirect staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in nursing or a scientific field. An Associate’s degree/R.N. or equivalent with relevant experience is acceptable.
• 12+ years of Pharma-related/clinical research experience.
• 10 years leading global teams in clinical research and study strategy.
• Experience in risk management and strategic execution to support pipeline decisions.
• Proven coaching, mentoring, and people management, remote management preferred.
• Familiarity with ICH, Global Regulations, Ethics and Compliance.

Responsibilities

• Connect science and operations to execute clinical studies/programs with realistic timelines and enrollment options.
• Develop clinical operational strategy aligned with asset strategy and drive cross-functional execution.
• Evaluate risks and mitigations; propose strategic options to asset strategy team.
• Influence management and cross-functional teams to achieve program objectives across Development Operations and Global Medical Affairs.
• Contribute to portfolio planning with costs, resource projections, and timelines for development programs.
• Review and provide clinical operations input to regulatory documents (INDs, IBs, NDAs, BLAs, MAA).
• Oversee external budget management across portfolios (range in the millions).
• Lead large-scale cross-functional innovation and process improvement initiatives with tangible business impact.
• Develop, mentor, and grow clinical operations staff, fostering an inclusive environment.
