Job summary

The City of Sandy Springs is seeking an experienced GIS Manager to lead the enterprise GIS program, guiding technology, data standards, and a team across municipal services—from public safety to parks. You will shape GIS strategy, supervise staff, manage budgets, and ensure reliable GIS platforms citywide.

Ideal candidates have strong project management, leadership, and communication skills, with proficiency in Esri ArcGIS and SQL/Python.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience designing, developing, and operating geospatial data initiatives.
• At least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license required.
• GISP certification (preferred)
• Master’s degree in GIS, geography, computer science, engineering, public administration (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and implement GIS-related projects from concept through delivery.
• Lead development and execution of GIS project plans.
• Oversee enterprise GIS operations: database management, data development, software selection, implementation, user support, budgeting, training.
• Coordinate GIS software upgrades for city-wide compatibility.
• Develop and advance citywide GIS standards for deployment, data management, governance.
• Provide GIS guidance to project teams and city departments.
• Liaise with vendors for GIS resources installation and maintenance.
• Maintain expertise in GIS software, geospatial tech, and emerging tools.
• Ensure staff receives GIS training and responsive support.
• Partner with departments and external agencies on spatial-data needs.
• Support Emergency Operations Center with mapping products and data.
• Prepare clear reports/presentations for City Council and leadership.
• Supervise and develop GIS staff in a results-driven culture.
