Job summary

The City of Sandy Springs is seeking an experienced, strategic GIS Manager to lead the City’s enterprise Geographic Information Systems program. This is an opportunity to guide the technology, data, standards, and team behind the maps and spatial intelligence that support critical municipal services—from public safety and emergency operations to community development, public works, parks, and beyond.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience designing, developing, and operating geospatial data initiatives.
• At least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience leading staff.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license required and must be maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and implement GIS-related projects from concept through delivery.
• Lead development of GIS project plans with requirements, tasks, timelines, and resources.
• Oversee enterprise GIS operations including data, software selection, budgeting, and training.
• Coordinate GIS software upgrades and ensure system compatibility across departments.
• Develop and advance citywide GIS standards for deployment, data management, and governance.
• Provide GIS guidance to project teams, city departments, and external partners.
• Serve as GIS liaison with vendors for GIS resources acquisition, installation, and maintenance.
• Maintain subject-matter expertise in GIS technologies and emerging tools.
• Ensure staff receive relevant GIS training and responsive technical support.
• Collaborate with departments and agencies to identify spatial-data needs and practical implementations.
• Support the City’s Emergency Operations Center with mapping products and data support.
