Are you a Geotechnical Engineering professional with a passion for exceptional client service? Terracon is growing and seeks a Senior Engineer to join the team in our new Grand Rapids office.

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the rapidly growing development of West Michigan and expand our consulting engineering practice. Our Senior Geotechnical Engineers will provide engineering and consulting services for transportation projects. This includes performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analyses, calculations, recommendations, designing plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and preparing related reports. Responsibilities also include reviewing drawings and construction for compliance, preparing proposals and estimates, tracking project progress and budgets, researching and resolving design and construction issues, and evaluating laboratory or field data for reports. The role requires applying sound engineering principles and effectively communicating complex issues to both technical and non-technical clients and teams.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

• Lead safety efforts and ensure team adherence to safety rules and guidelines. Create and model a safe work environment and promote pre-task planning.
• Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects, ensuring quality standards are met.
• Develop understanding of project-related risks and how to mitigate them, aligning with company risk policies.
• Provide technical direction for routine and complex projects.
• Conceptualize initial designs or investigative approaches for large projects or oversee engineering work on moderate projects.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate engineering activities, including complex features and conflicting requirements.
• Review projects involving complex investigation techniques and supervise analysis and report formulation for clients.
• Lead technical training and make informed decisions on technology issues.
• Contribute to marketing, sales, and business development efforts.
• Supervise less experienced engineers or technical support staff.
• Serve as an Authorized Project Reviewer and mentor for junior staff.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Minimum 8-11 years of experience.
• Master's degree in Engineering preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
• Transportation experience with DOTs is preferred.
