Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Geologist for our Greensboro, NC office, with potential assignments to Durham and Charlotte, NC. The role involves leading environmental consulting services, client development, and project delivery within the Earth & Environment Team.

The ideal candidate has 7–10+ years of experience, a geology-related degree, and strong skills in technical writing and regulatory programs. Travel to NC sites may be required and candidates must meet health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geosciences or closely related discipline.
• 7-10+ years of related experience.
• Ability to pursue and develop clients in public or private sectors.
• Proficient in project management and/or business development experience.
• Knowledge and experience with Federal and State environmental regulatory programs (NC, SC, VA).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Must pass physical, background check; valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
• Strong self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in technical writing, office software, predictive models, and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Plan, oversee, and mentor environmental scientists and engineers on field and office projects.
• Provide technical review and mentoring to ensure compliance with regulations, standards and contracts.
• Manage projects technically and administratively.
• Oversee cross-functional teams for scopes, schedules, and budgets.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations for regulatory compliance.
• Plan and direct business development and marketing to capture new clients.
• Represent WSP USA with clients, regulators, and subcontractors.
• May travel to project sites primarily in the Southeast, especially NC.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required.
