Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Geologist for the Greensboro, North Carolina office to lead environmental consulting initiatives within the Earth & Environment Team. The role requires directing projects, mentoring scientists, and developing client relationships across public and private sectors.

Ideal candidates will have a geology-related degree, 7–10+ years of experience, and strong ability to manage programs, budgets, and cross-functional teams. Occasional travel in the Southeast is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geosciences or closely related discipline.
• 7–10+ years of related experience.
• Ability to pursue and develop clients in the public or private sectors.
• Proficient in project management and/or business development experience.
• Knowledge and experience with Federal and State environmental regulatory programs (NC, SC, VA).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Must pass physical, background check, valid driver’s license and driving record per policy.
• Demonstrated self-leadership with multitasking and prioritization.
• Ability to lead junior team members with QA/QC adherence.
• Proficient in technical writing, software tools, math, predictive models.

Responsibilities

• Plan, oversee, and mentor environmental scientists and engineers on field and office projects.
• Provide technical review and mentoring to ensure compliance with laws and standards.
• Manage projects technically and administratively.
• Oversee cross-functional teams for scopes, schedules, and budgets.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for findings and recommendations.
• Plan and direct business development and marketing strategies to capture new clients.
• Represent WSP USA with clients, regulators, and subcontractors.
• Travel to projects primarily in the Southeast, as needed.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards across sites.
• Take on additional duties as business needs require.
