We’re partnering with an operationally focused, lower-middle market private equity firm to find a Senior Fund Accountant, and this is not your typical fund accounting seat.
Our client was founded in 2019 by a group of seasoned operating executives and investment professionals. They back high-growth industrial businesses across industrial services, niche manufacturing, value-added distribution, environmental services, and critical infrastructure services. They’re not passive investors. They work shoulder to shoulder with management teams, using hands‑on operational expertise and an aggressive buy‑and‑build playbook to create category‑leading companies.
They’re a lean, entrepreneurial team headquartered in Houston, and they’re adding a senior fund accountant to anchor the function behind a growing platform.
Why you should be excited about this one
- Your work will matter. This is a small team, not a fund admin assembly line. You’ll work directly with the principals and be visible to their limited partners, with a real voice in how the finance function is built and scaled.
- Serious bonus upside. Target bonus is 30-50% of base, tied to firm and individual performance. You’re rewarded like a contributor to the outcome, not a cost center.
- A front‑row seat to buy‑and‑build. You’ll see deals structured, closed, and integrated, and learn how value gets created from the inside.
- Breadth. Fund‑level accounting, portfolio company reporting, LP relationships, and the strategy that ties them together.
- Defensive, real‑economy sectors. The firm invests in the businesses that keep infrastructure running, not in whatever is trending this quarter.
- Operator‑led leadership. You’ll learn from people who have founded, grown, and managed real businesses, not just analyzed them.
What you’ll do:
- Own the fund accounting cycle across the firm’s investment vehicles, including NAV, capital activity, allocations, and the general ledger
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements, partner capital statements, and LP reporting packages
- Manage capital calls, distributions, and waterfall calculations with precision and a clear audit trail
- Coordinate with third‑party administrators, auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel to deliver clean, on‑time audits and tax filings
- Support investment valuations and portfolio company financial reporting
- Handle management fees, fund expenses, and bank reconciliations, and maintain strong internal controls
- Support new acquisitions, add‑ons, and fund‑level transactions as the platform grows
- Respond to LP inquiries and diligence requests accurately and professionally
- Identify and implement improvements to process, systems, and reporting
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
- 2-5 years of fund accounting experience, ideally in private equity (public accounting experience with PE clients is a plus)
- Deep working knowledge of partnership accounting, capital account allocations, and PE fund structures, including carried interest and waterfalls
- Strong command of US GAAP and fair value accounting
- Advanced Excel skills, plus experience with fund accounting or ERP platforms and investor portals
- A meticulous eye for detail and the ability to communicate the big picture clearly
- An ownership mentality: you spot what’s broken and fix it
- Integrity and discretion with sensitive financial information
Who will thrive here:
You want to work alongside people who have built and run real businesses. You prefer ownership over bureaucracy, and you’re energized by a growing firm where your contribution is visible and your upside is real.
